Jermaine Thomas, a seventh grade math teacher at Natchitoches Junior High School, created a school club for young men at the school called “Boys to Men Club.”

The goal is to teach the young men basic life skills such as appropriate dress attire, good communication skills, social skills, positive social conduct, respect and more. Member will set goals and work toward a timeline to meet those goals.

Every other week, members and their mentor arrive at school clean cut and “dressed for success” in slacks, dress shirts, dress shoes and a necktie.

“This type of club was much needed because many young men at this age enter high school lacking these basic skills,” Thomas said.

Members will promote community service around Natchitoches, conduct fundraisers and learn the value of a hard days work. To contribute, contact Thomas at jermaine.thomas@nat.k12.la.us.
