Melvin “Doc” Truitt Veuleman passed away peacefully at his home in Marthaville Monday, Nov. 19, 2018.
He was born April 9, 1927, in Marthaville.
He served his country in the Navy during WWII in a tour in the South Pacific. He came home and drove a gas truck for Valley Farmers Co-op for 44 years until he retired in 1991. He then spent his retirement working his garden, raising livestock and spending time with his grandchildren. Doc served as a deacon at Anthony Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his spouse of 46 years, Charlene Crump Veuleman; and his second wife of 23 years, Mary Lou Veuleman;
parents, Joseph Edward Veuleman and Mary Lee Campbell Veuleman; and brothers, Tullos “Tubb” Veuleman and Aubrey “Hook” Veuleman.
He is survived by his only daughter, Denise Veuleman McAlpin of Robeline; six grandchildren, John McAlpin and wife Abbie of Marthaville, Charlie McAlpin and wife Isabel of Hammond, Joseph McAlpin and wife Jillian of Bossier City, Jim McAlpin of Natchitoches, Katy LeMaire and husband Paul of Little Elm,
Texas, and Jacob McAlpin of Tampa, Fla.; great-grandchildren, Carson and Dawson; and a sister in law, Joyce Veuleman.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Nov. 24 at 10 a.m. at Robeline First Baptist Church with Bro. Brian Ray officiating. Burial will follow at the Beulah Cemetery in Marthaville. The family will receive friends from 5–7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23 at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches and again Saturday at 9 a.m. at Robeline First Baptist Church,7739 Oak Street, Robeline.
