The Louisiana Edge girls softball team competed in the Cenla Fall Ball League this year. The Cenla Fall Ball League is a league compromised of girls 12 years of age, however the young ladies from Natchitoches Parish were all under the age of 12. These young ladies range from 9-11 years old. To get an in-depth look and understanding of Louisiana Edge, I interviewed one of the three coaches, Teria Burton.

Coach Burton explained that there are two other coaches who helped the girls achieve their goal of winning the championship this year, Dedric Smith and Reginald Jones. Coach Burton explains how the concept of the girls softball team came into existence. “I decided to organize a travel softball in response to my daughter, Tyonnah Burton, wanting something more to do after Dixie Youth softball had concluded.

Louisiana Edge softball team members are Skylar Braxton, Breanna Hale, Bayla Procell, Tyonnah Burton, Sydni Jones, Ayla Payne, Shani Winder, Mallory LaCour, Serenity Smith, Sydney Terrell, Zoey Fitts and Deanna Fowler.

Because she’s only 10 years old she has to wait until her seventh grade year to complete for her school, so we decided to organize a travel team.” Burton said. During the season, the coaches and team travel to Alexandria every Tuesday night during the entire month of September until the first weekend of November.

This year is the second year the young ladies have participated in the league. Last year they finished in fifth place. This year they took first place and the Championship finishing with an 8-0 record scoring 59 runs while holding their opponents to a season-high 22 combined runs.”
