A list of unclaimed money owed to Natchitoches Parish residents will be published in The Natchitoches Times next week. Louisiana State Treasurer John M. Schroder Sr. said the State of Louisiana owes $852 million in unclaimed property to Louisiana Citizens.
The Treasury’s Unclaimed Property Division is working to see this money is returned to the rightful recipient. Schroder announced at the end of October the state treasurer would pay $15 million in unclaimed property to Louisiana citizens. “The results have been great and we hope to return up to $20 million! My office is printing 2,500 checks every day and over the next several weeks, 85,000 residents will receive checks in the mail.
A partnership with the Louisiana Department of Revenue made this massive check mail-out possible,” he said. “There is still $852 million in unclaimed property that hasn’t been claimed by Louisiana citizens and we collect millions of dollars from businesses each year. Every year, we publish the names of the owners of this new money in newspapers statewide and will begin doing so the week after Thanksgiving.”
While looking through sales pages to plan your Christmas purchases, take a few minutes to check your newspaper’s public notices section to see if you or someone you know is listed.
