Peggy Sweeney-McDonald, creator/author of “Meanwhile, Back at Café Du Monde…” the live food monologue show and the book, will sign her coffee table book Saturday, Dec. 8 from 10:30 a.m. – noon at Merci Beaucoup Gift Shop in downtown Natchitoches.

In October 2018, Sweeney-McDonald hosted a weekend Preserve Louisiana “Steel Magnolias” Cultural tour to Natchitoches. During the tour Sweeney-McDonald produced the show for a dinner at Merci Beaucoup Restaurant with Natchitoches personalities sharing their food stories including Johnny and Rose Cox, owners of Merci Beaucoup; Arlene Gould, executive director of the Natchitoches Convention and Visitors Bureau; Vera Severin; and historian Rhonda Gauthier. Sweeney-McDonald is delighted to return to Natchitoches for a book signing and hopes to produce another “Meanwhile, Back at Café Du Monde…” show open to the public in 2019. Sweeney-McDonald was inspired to create a food monologue show, her own “event” and the journey began.

The show snowballed and hundreds of people have shared their food stories in restaurant venues across the country from chefs, actors, writers, politicians, musicians, athletes and more. The book includes humorous and heartfelt personal stories from the shows with the common thread of food – our culture and relationships, personal life stories, past love affairs and more. “We’ve all experienced the highs and lows of life, which mostly revolve around our food experiences,” she said. “Everyone has their own “Café Du Monde” experience—the place where they know what they are ordering, they know it is delicious and they know they are with good friends and family and for that hour.” The book has been featured at the Louisiana Book Festival and Faulkner Society Literary Festival. It has been featured in Southern Seasons, Texas Home and Living, Flavors Magazine, Chili Pepper Magazine, InRegister and 225 magazines. The book features food stories by prominent Louisiana personalities including:

* General Russel Honoré, retired U.S Army Lieutenant General, Writer, and Speaker
