The Boys & Girls Club of El Camino Real will close its doors Jan. 1 after 29 years of service to the youth of Natchitoches according to Chief Volunteer Officer Peggy Braxton.

“This unfortunate decision is a result of a challenging fundraising environment that has resulted in a shortfall of needed resources,” Braxton said. “The organization has notified members’ families about this decision and has provided suggestions regarding other services available for young people in the community.” Braxton said that thousands of children have participated in the Boys & Girls Club since its inception in 1989 and have benefitted from programs such as homework help classes, field trips, drug prevention classes, character development and more.

Braxton expressed appreciation to those who have supported the club but especially to Calvin Braxton and Natchitoches Ford, Alliance Compressors, City of Natchitoches, RoyOMartin, Northwestern State University, Coach Mike McConathy, Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office, Cane River Charities, Cane River Meat Pie Festival and other donors and volunteers that have helped the organization throughout the years.

“I hope that the future holds an opportunity for a Boys & Girls Club to be reestablished in Natchitoches as the children and families certainly deserve the opportunity a Boys & Girls Club program can provide,” Braxton said.
