Steel Magnolia Run set for March 16

A Steel Magnolia is a woman who exemplifies both tradition femininity as well as uncommon fortitude. Many of us know an amazing woman who has come face to face with cancer with the dignity of a Steel Magnolia.

Research shows one in every eight American women will be diagnosed with breast cancer at some point in their life. Breast cancer has the highest incident rate in Louisiana, with the second highest death rate of all cancers.

Knowing the importance of early detection, the Natchitoches Regional Medical Center takes action with a brand new Breast Health Center, with the latest in 3D digital mammography.

With the Kasey’s Heart and Soul Run discontinuing, NRMC associates were compelled to pick up the baton to ensure a similar event continues in Natchitoches and maintains a supportive connection to the Louisiana Lions Camp and the children they serve. The inaugural Steel Magnolia Run will be Saturday, March 16, 2019.

The 5K and 1-mile walk/run and Roar Challenge course will be at NSU’s Collins Pavillion. Race day registration begins at 6:45 a.m., the 1-mile fun walk/run begins at 8 a.m., the Roar Challenge Course begins at 8:30 a.m. and the 5K begins at 8:45 p.m. Race packet pick-up is Friday, March 15 from 2-6 p.m. at the NRMC Legacy Room. Awards will be given for the 5K and Roar events after the race at 10:30 a.m. and for the 1-Mile at 8:20 a.m.

Entry fees for the 1-mile are $20 ($25 day of), 5K is $30 ($35 day of), Roar Challenge Course is $35 ($40 day of) and Virtual Runner is $20. The Virtual Runner option is for those who would like to donate and receive a T-shirt but do not wish to walk/run. Pre-registration entry fees include a race T-shirt and goodie bag (guaranteed only if registered by March 1.) Proceeds of the race will go towards the NRMC Foundation for the new Breast Health Center and 3D Mammography. The foundation will also donation a portion of proceeds to the Louisiana Lions Camp.
