Mr. Luther Donald Nelson, 76, and a resident of Natchitoches, passed away Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019, in Natchitoches. He was born Feb. 18, 1942, in Marthaville to Luther Nelson and Lela Aline Jordan Nelson.
After graduating from Marthaville High School, he went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Fletcher from 1961-65.
He later attended Natchitoches Trade School, where he obtained his certificate in welding. Over the years he worked as a millwright and welder at Willamette Industries as well as a welder and mechanic at Con Agra. He was also a 33rd degree Mason. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was an avid outdoorsman; he loved hunting, fishing and gardening. One of his greatest joys in his later years came from spending time with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther Nelson and Lela Aline Nelson; and sister, Sybil Gray.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years Cecil McPhearson Nelson; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Angela Nelson; son and daughter-in-law, Kerry and Barbara Nelson; grandchildren, Chance Logan Nelson, Keara Mae Nelson and Darby Clarke Glenn; brothers and sisters, Mary Laroux, Johnnie Johnson, Mabel Bachelor, Vera and J. R. Priest, Janet Price, Ronald and Fran Nelson, Trudy Nelson, Sandy and Johnny Ramirez and Dean and Pat Nelson; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service to honor the life of Mr. Nelson will be announced at a later time.
