Arkansas faculty member to present recital Jan. 23


NATCHITOCHES – Dr. Timothy F. Thompson will perform a French horn recital at Northwestern State University on Wednesday, Jan. 23 at 7:30 p.m. in Magale Recital Hall. Admission is free and open to the public. Thompson, a professor of music at the University of Arkansas, will play several solo works for horn.

Thompson has been a member of the University of Arkansas faculty since 1979.
He is hornist with the Lyrique Quintette, a woodwind quintet in residence at the university as well as the Arkansas Brassworks, the university’s resident brass quintet. He has also served part time on the faculties of the University of North Carolina, where he performed with the faculty brass quintet, and the University of Wisconsin.

Thompson performs regularly with orchestras, bands and chamber groups throughout the United States as well as internationally. He has performed as principal and section hornist with the North Carolina Symphony, Arkansas Symphony, Aspen Festival Orchestra, National Orchestra of Bolivia, Classical Music Seminar in Eisenstadt, Austria, Madison (Wisconsin) Symphony, Beloit (Wisconsin) Symphony, North Arkansas Symphony, Fort Smith Symphony, Tulsa Symphony, Springfield Symphony, Greensboro Symphony and other ensembles.

While at NSU, Thompson will give a master class on Thursday, Jan. 24 at 12:30 p.m. in Room 228 of the old wing of the A.A. Fredericks Creative and Performing Arts Center.
