The Mrs. H.D. Dear Sr. and Alice E. Dear School of Creative and Performing Arts at Northwestern State University will hold its annual Sax Fest on Saturday, Feb. 2 in Magale Recital Hall.
Events begin at noon and are free and open to the public. According to organizer Dr. Paul Forsyth, a professor of saxophone at Northwestern State, Sax Fest will include a guest artist performance, clinic with guest artist Chris Bullock, a jazz combo and high school master class and a Saxophone choir reading session. The Chris Bullock Band will perform at 6 p.m.
Bullock is a saxophonist, multi-instrumentalist and composer. He is a member of the group Snarky Puppy and recently released his debut record “Boomtown.” The album is a hybrid of sorts in which Bullock explored ways to combine his varied interests in jazz, woodwind chamber music and hip hop production elements.
As a longtime member and composer for Snarky Puppy, he has received three Grammy awards and maintains an active schedule performing all over the world. A resident of Brooklyn, he balances his time leading his solo project, playing live shows with a diverse range of artists and performing for studio sessions.
