2019 Mystic Krewe de Saint Denis King and Queen


The Mystic Krewe de St. Denis is pleased to announce the Royal Monarchs for the 42nd Tableau and Ball, which will be Saturday, Feb. 23 at the Natchitoches Events Center.

Elizabeth Kate deVargas

Miss Elizabeth Kate deVargas will reign as Queen for the 2019 Mystic Krewe de St. Denis Tableau and Ball. Queen Elizabeth is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Emile deVargas. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Gordon Whitford, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Richard McCliesh deVargas. She is a 2018 graduate of St. Mary’s Catholic School and was selected as Miss St. Mary’s High School her senior year. She was presented as Queen of the St. Denis Art League Spring Court in 2018.

Currently, Queen Elizabeth is a freshman at Louisiana Tech University majoring in psychology. She is a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority and was elected as Junior Panhellenic Delegate. Queen Elizabeth also made the President’s List at Louisiana Tech University by maintaining a 4.0 GPA during the fall quarter. In her spare time, she enjoys photography, videography, listening to music, traveling and spending time with family and friends.

Richard Emile deVargas

Richard Emile deVargas will reign as King of the 2019 Mystic Krewe de St. Denis Tableau and Ball as St. Denis visits Louisiana’s parties and festivals. King Richard is a graduate of St. Mary’s High School and Northwestern State University. He went on to graduate from Southern University’s School of Law.

King Richard serves as president of the Natchitoches Parish Bar Association and was previously named Pro Bono Attorney of the Year. He has served as the chairman of the Natchitoches Fire and Police Civil Service Award. King Richard is a member of the Rotary Club and the NSU Athletic Association. He is an NSU Legendary Link Award winner. Previously, King Richard enjoyed helping coach at St. Mary’s High School and for Natchitoches Dixie Youth. He also enjoys serving as a sports commentator for St. Mary’s and NSU football. King Richard is married to the former Amy Whitford. They have two children, Elizabeth Kate and William Richard.
