Mrs. Clarice M. Garner, 91, of Natchitoches, passed away Feb. 14, 2019.
Mrs. Garner was a cafeteria manager at Atlanta High School before moving to Shreveport in 1977 where she became house mother at NSU school of Nursing.
She retired in 1997 and resided in Natchitoches until her death. She was an active member of Trinity Baptist Church. She loved to cook, sew, knit, crochet, paint and play cards. Her biscuits and dumplings were renowned. She loved to do those things but her first love was God and family. She loved unconditionally, without bounds. To know her was to love her.
Mrs. Garner was the daughter of the late Roy Alvin Thames and the late Ruth Marie Jeter. She was also preceded in death by her husband, J.E. Garner; son, Roger Del Garner; grandson, Cody John Garner; as well as a sister, Sue Thames.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children, John Garner (Fran) of Bossier City, Jennifer Gallien (Derryl) of Natchitoches; grandchildren, Lisa O’Donnell, Chad James, Jesse James, Lauren Boudreaux; four great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; her brother, William Cedric “Buck” Thames (Sandra) of Houston; sisters, Doris Lear of Shreveport and Nelda Terry (Bob) of Dequincy.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17 at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church with the Rev. Chad James officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield.
Pallbearers were Micah Boudreaux, Sherwin Brosette, Scott Davis, Bruce Thames, Scott Terry and Paul Terry.
Honorary pallbearers were Frank Bandy, Johnnie Garner and Bob Terry.
