Welfare concern results in drug arrest



A Natchitoches man was arrested on felony drug charges Monday, Feb. 18 after several motorists reported a man walking on La. Hwy 6 West near Hagewood. The motorists reported the man wore dark clothing and expressed concern for his safety.

Deputies arrived on scene at 9:13 p.m. and made contact with the man, Tommy Hayes, 48, of Natchitoches. Deputies were going to assist Hayes by transporting him to a destination of his choice near Natchitoches, however, they asked for permission to search his person for officer safety.

During a search of his person, deputies seized a syringe and a bag of suspected methamphetamine. Hayes, of Natchitoches was charged with Possession of CDS Schedule II Methamphetamine and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Hayes remains in the detention center awaiting bond. Deputies say Hayes admitted he purchased the suspected methamphetamine for personal use. Deputy C. Olliff and Sgt. M. Robertson made the arrest.
