Councilwoman Sylvia Morrow will host a meeting on expanding home ownership in Natchitoches Saturday, March 9 at 10 a.m. at 560 Front St. The free seminar will also be hosted by the La. Housing Corporation. The speakers will be the director and staff from the Corporation in Baton Rouge. The La. Housing Corporation was created to address the need for the construction of decent, safe, accessible and sanitary housing for low to moderate income families in Louisiana.
“We are addressing this responsibility with a combination of single family home ownership opportunities as well as increased multi-family rental production in areas that will benefit the communities in which they exist,” Morrow said.
Information will be shared on finances available for singe-family homes. The corporation is working to create equitable development opportunities and improve communities throughout the state. The La. Housing Corporation is reaching out to each community, parish and district to make sure opportunities reach people who need them the most. The Corporation is focused on building a state framework of partners and participants to address the housing needs for all citizens.
There will be representatives from the local USDA Rural Housing Office to address the funds available for senior citizen grants and business development funds. USDA is working to educate citizens on loans and grants to expand economic opportunities and create jobs that impact rural areas. Morrow encourages members of the clergy to attend the meeting. USDA has funds for churches and more than $4 billion in loans available for rural water infrastructure projects.
Morrow encourages citizens of Natchitoches and the surrounding area to join the staff from the La. Housing Corporation at the meeting.
