Sheriff Victor Jones, supported by his wife, daughter and staff, announced in a press conference tonight at 5:30 p.m. he will not seek re-election. Jones stated he felt the time was right and that he was leaving the sheriff’s office in good shape.
Jones said he would not leave the department in limbo, announcing his choice for a successor is his “in-house attorney” Stuart Wright. Wright, a Natchitoches native has 27 years experience in the District Attorney’s office and eight years in the sheriff’s department.
Jones will officially retire June 30, 2020 when his current term expires.
