After the Krewe of Wag-uns parade commenced down Front Street Saturday, March 2, the awards ceremony took place at the downtown riverbank stage. Award winners were announced in the best float category, best dressed child category and best dog costume category.
Before the parade, the annual tradition of crowning King Rex Rufus and Queen Mutt-A-Gras took place at BOM. This year, King Rex Rufus was Wrigley, left, owned by Jarod, Danielle, Jefferson and Ann-Marie Dunahoe, and Queen Mutt-A-Gras was Peaches, owned by Linsey Guthrie. The two newly crowned pups led the masses in the parade, right behind parade leaders, Indigeaux.
Best Float
The first place winner is the Stokes family, with a theme of “The Wizard of Oz,” including Kari, Sam, Patrick, Charlotte and Alison Stokes, with Lava as the Cowardly Lion.
The second place winner is Lucky Dogs, by Hillary, Jeremy, Kylie and Lainey Bennett, Austin and Hudson Horne and Becky Bennett.
The third place winner is RJ Berry. His parents are Joey and Ashley Berry.
Child Costume
The first place winner is Austin Horne, niece of Jeremy and Hillary Bennett, who is pictured with her.
Second place winner Josie Andrews.
Third place winner Morgan Berry. Her parents are Joey and Ashley Berry.
Dog Costume
First place winner is Icee, owned by Amanda Gibson.
The second place winner is Tsubake, owned by Jason and Jesse Church
The third place winner is Wrigley, owned by Danielle, Jarod, Jefferson and Ann-Marie Dunahoe.
