With the strong chance of stormy weather Saturday, Northwestern State has shifted the Leon Johnson NSU Invitational track and field meet to Friday at the Walter P. Ledet Track Complex.

Competition will begin with field events at 10 a.m., and racing will begin at 1 o’clock. It is the only home regular-season meet for the Demons and Lady Demons.

The 2017 Leon Johnson NSU Invitational was washed out by heavy storms so with a forecast projecting a high probability of bad weather this Saturday, head coach Mike Heimerman and NSU Athletics staff decided to stage the home meet a day early.

“Track and field is a unique sport in that nearly all of your competition is away from home. Our athletes really look forward to this meet each spring so their fellow students, their families, their friends, their faculty members and NSU supporters can watch them compete,” said Heimerman. “Moving up a day to Friday gives us a much, much better chance of avoiding bad weather.”

Several Southland Conference squads and other teams are expected to compete at the Leon Johnson NSU Invitational.

NSU will host another meet this spring, the May 3-5 Southland Conference Outdoor Championships.
