Lyrica, NSU Men’s Chorus to perform April 26


Lyrica and the Northwestern State University Men’s Chorus will present a concert on Thursday, April 25 at 7:30 p.m. in Magale Recital Hall. Admission is free and open to the public. Director of Choral Activities Dr. Nicholaus Cummins will conduct Lyrica. Associate Director of Choral Activities Michael Rorex will conduct the Men’s Chorus.

The concert will honor former Director of Choral Activities Dr. Burt Allen, on his induction into the CAPA Hall of Fame. The Dr. Burt Allen Choral Leadership Award will also be presented.

Lyrica will perform “Heleluyan,” a Native American chant, “My Shepherd Will Supply,” an American Folk Tune with flute, oboe and piano, “Niska Banja,” a Serbian piece with piano and clarinet, “Somewhere over The Rainbow,” “Jave Jive,” a tune about coffee and tea and “Frankie and Johnny,” an 1890s tune about a man caught stepping out on his wife.

The Men’s Chorus will begin the concert with “Moon River” from the film Breakfast at Tiffany’s.  The piece is for 4-part men’s chorus and incorporates a cello solo to be played by Alonso Restreppo.  The program will also include an arrangement of “Georgia” with a group of jazz horn players, “I Wish to Be Single Again,” “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot” and “Behold, the Royal Banners Go” by Giacomo Puccini.
