It’s been a long time coming, but the launch of the interactive widget on the city’s website, www.natchitoches.com, will be ready for launch on or about May 16 according to Natchitoches Historic District Development Commission (NHDDC) member Rebecca Blankenbaker. The Go Natchitoches app will help visitors, and locals, discover all the places to explore, stay, dine, shop and meet in Natchitoches.

Visitors can plan the perfect stay based on interests, timeframe and location as well as browse the feed for updates on what’s happening in real time. In addition they can view upcoming events and festivals, add events and places to their own customized plan and share events, places, and their custom plan with friends.

Much of the discussion at the Thursday, April 18 NHDDC meeting was on their budget for the next fiscal year. A budget will be presented at the May meeting outlining how the funds will be distributed. The commission will reviews current projects, long funded projects such as the Christmas Festival and newer events like the Car Show to determine budget priorities. The commission supports numerous endeavors, parks, festivals, sports and events in the downtown area, pays for the majority of marketing including billboards, print and digital ads as well as contributes funding for the flora and fauna on the riverbank and downtown.
