NATCHITOCHES – A Northwestern State University student placed second in the state for the Certiport Fall 2018 Qualifier for the Microsoft Office Specialist Excel 2016 exam. Caitlin McKee of Anacoco had the second highest score and time in the state: 979/1000 in 26 minutes and 28 seconds. Certiport recognizes the top three competitors in each state.
McKee is an online student who will graduate May 10 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology with a concentration in prevention specialist and a minor in computer information systems. She plans to move back to her home state of Colorado to launch an occupational/speech language therapy business with her mother, who is a speech language pathologist.
“I’ve had several amazing experiences at NSU, even while being a full-time all online student.,” McKee said. “I’ve had the opportunity to make close friends and develop some astounding projects, such as my own website, which includes resume information, personal objectives and family heritage.
“Psychology has always been a profound fascination of mine. To have the ability to understand what makes another being: their feelings, thoughts, moods, etc. is exceedingly intriguing. People are tricky and I believe to truly comprehend the essence of a person you must be even trickier.
“My thought process behind my minor was that computers aren’t going anywhere. They will continue to evolve and incorporate new quirks and gadgets. I already knew the basics so why not learn more and progress with them? Overall, my time here at NSU is quickly ending, but I know that both the skill sets of psychology and computer systems that I’ve honed throughout my time at NSU will allow me to pursue any dream, goal, or objective I aspire.”
“We are extremely proud of Caitlin,” said Mary Beth Tarver, CIS instructor. “She is a first to receive this honor at in the Excel category.”
