Search for suspect in Cane River – Happening now



Shortly after 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 18 Natchitoches Police Department responded to shots being fired near the 700 Block of Abbie Drive.  Units from the police department responded to the scene to discover the suspect. This led to a foot pursuit. Officers then reported seeing the suspect dive into Cane River Lake to evade capture.  The Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office, along with the Louisiana State Police and the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, responded to the area to assist in locating the suspect who was identified by witnesses.

Valere DeWayne Frazier,  b/m, 33, of West Lawn Drive, Slidell, is wanted as the primary suspect in an active aggravated assault case and currently has active warrants for his arrest through the Natchitoches Parish Sheriffs Office.  Frazier remains at large and is considered armed and dangerous.

This investigation remains under investigation.

Multiple law enforcement agencies are searching for a suspect believed to have taken to the water of Cane River.

Details are sketchy at this point as to the identity of the suspect. The offense is also unknown.  Updates will be provided as they are received.

The incident happened around 1 p.m. today. Law enforcement, with the assistance of the NPSO Search and Rescue (boat) team, remain on scene along both sides of Cane River on Parkway Drive and Fish Hatchery Road.

Residents should lock their doors and motorists should not pick up any pedestrians.
















On June 18th just before 1:00 p.m. NPD responded to Abby Drive in reference to a subject shooting in the area. Other agencies also responded to the area to assist in locating the suspect.
At this time there is no report of anyone being shot.
