Black bear sightings increase

Tyler Griffith shared this photo of his first-hand encounter with a Louisiana black bear Tuesday, June 18. Griffith, of Coushatta, was on the job site in Ball (near Pineville) when the bruin came for a visit.

“The bear came out of the woods and we watched it for maybe 45 minutes,” he said. “Then it finally went into the trap the Wildlife and Fisheries had placed there this morning.”

Griffith said the bear had been seen in the area rummaging through trash cans. A second sighting of a black bear on Hwy. 9 near Readhimer was posted on social media the same day. The LDWF did not have additional information available at press time.
