PAULA “PENNY” BROWN
JUNE 17, 1943-JUNE 17, 2019
Born June 17, 1943 in Covington, Va., Penny Brown, 76, went to be with her Lord, Jesus Christ Monday, June 17, 2019, at MD Anderson Hospital in Houston, while undergoing cancer treatment. Penny, with her husband Don Brown, were members of Grace New Testament Baptist Church in Natchitoches for the last 40 years, where she taught Sunday School for the three to seven year old children. She took her responsibility seriously and she faithfully loved and taught her little ones the Word of God. She and her husband founded Brown’s Security Systems in Natchitoches in 1982, where she worked until retirement in 2003.
Penny was preceded in death by her parents Ellis K. and Florence Harmon of Cleveland, Tenn.; her daughter Debbie Brown Terry, and her grandsons Donald Norman Brown III and Andrew Foster. Penny is survived by her loving husband Don Brown. They were married June 20, 1959, and enjoyed 60 wonderful years together. They were blessed with two children and five others that call them mom and dad; their son Norman Brown and his wife Arlene; their daughter Tandy Arnold and Rick; their son Larry Sutherland and his wife Karen; their son Ricky Terry and wife Melissa; their son Preston Foster and his wife Davida; their daughter Judy Lamson and her husband Mike; and their son Merlin Guilbeau and his wife Robbie.
She was also survived by her brother Gary Harmon, his wife Vickie and three children; Kevin, Debbie and Keith.
Penny will be dearly missed by her grandchildren; Joshua Brown; Tim Brown; Rosanna Brown; Nate (Alisha) Brown; Elisabeth (Chris) Paisley; Andrew (Jen) Brown; Daniel (Marsha) Terry; Rachel deVarennes, Stephen (Irene) Foster, Mark (Erika) Foster, David (Blanca) Foster, Matthew (Kandice) Foster, Caleb (Kimberly) Foster, Aaron Foster, Sara (Norm) Stanton, Mac Lamson, David Hooper, Maryelle Hooper, Ellie Hooper, Anna Hooper and Joshua Hooper. She also enjoyed the blessing of 20 great-grandchildren.
Penny faithfully served the Lord in her church in many unofficial ways and she will be greatly missed by her church family who love her dearly.
Pallbearers are Nate Brown, Chris Paisley, Daniel Terry, Stephen Foster, Matthew Foster, and David Hooper. Honorary Pallbearers are Joshua Brown, Tim Brown, Andrew Brown, Mark Foster and Tom Coffey.
A service to honor her life will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 23 at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home, with Dr. Roy Cook and Dr. Ira Campbell officiating. Burial will follow at Russell Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, June 22 at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home.
