The Natchitoches Parish Library (NPL) will offer free introductory belly dance lessons Thursdays beginning Sept. 5 until Oct. 24 from 6-7 p.m. No prior experience is needed and no special clothing, shoes or props are needed.

The classes will be taught by members of Indigeaux, Natchitoches’ belly dance troupe. The style taught will be beginning tribal fusion, which is a combination of traditional, as well as contemporary dance moves relating to belly dance. Emphasis will be on the improvisation style, where troupe members cue the dance as it is happening.

Indigeaux has been together for six years and has performed on the Natchitoches Riverbank and at various events throughout north Louisiana. They also perform annually at the Bayou Belly Festival in Lafayette.

The library sessions will also include the traditional Witches Dance, which has become an annual event on the Riverbank.  It is a fun Halloween activity and it is optional to perform. The Witches Dance is Saturday, Oct. 26.
