The Natchitoches-Northwestern Symphony Orchestra will be one of the NSU ensembles performing at the Louisiana Music Educators Association conference.

A small community like Natchitoches is unusually fortunate to have an outstanding symphony orchestra and a local symphony society providing assistance through scholarships for string players attending Northwestern State University. The Natchitoches-Northwestern Symphony Society is now in its 54th year.

Under the direction of Dr. Douglas Bakenhus, the orchestra will perform five concerts plus the annual Christmas Gala shows during the 2019-20 season.

A Friends Of The Symphony fundraising campaign is currently underway. A single season ticket is $50 while seniors over 65 receive two season tickets. Patrons at the $100 level receive three season tickets; benefactors at $250, four season tickets; gold underwriters at $500, four season tickets plus a one-eighth page ad in the concert programs; and platinum underwriters at $1,000, six season tickets plus a one-fourth page ad in the concert programs. Without a season ticket, single admission to each concert is $15.

A donors only Wine and Cheese Reception will be Tuesday, Sept. 17 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the home of NSU President and Mrs. Chris Maggio on the NSU campus.

Those wishing to contribute to the symphony society can do so at that time and receive season tickets. Friends of the Symphony who have already donated can pick up their tickets at the event. If unable to attend, tickets will be sent to you. Donors may also contact Gayle Howell at 352-8055, Linnye Daily at 352-7970 or Pat Thomas at 352-8996. Concert dates are Tuesday, Sept. 24; Thursday, Oct. 31; Tuesday, Feb. 11; Monday, March 16; and Tuesday, April 28.

Concerts start at 7:30 p.m. at Magale Recital Hall on the NSU campus.

The Christmas GALA shows presented by the NSU School of Creative and Performing Arts will be at the Natchitoches Events Center due to renovations taking place at A.A. Fredericks Auditorium.

Seating is limited so reservations must be made in advance by calling CAPA at 357-4522.
