John P. Lawson Sr. died
unexpectedly, yet peacefully,
in his sleep in Kona, Hawaii,
July 10, 2019. Hawaii was one
of his and his beloved wife
Marilyn’s favorite places. He
was 85 years young. He was
born in New Orleans to
Blanchard and Odile Richard
Lawson Oct. 25, 1933.
John graduated from
Martin Behrman High school,
class of 1951.
Beloved husband of 57
years to the late Marilyn
Thompson Lawson and loving
father to John Preston Lawson
Jr and wife Rebekah Swygert
Lawson of San Antonio,
Stephen Lloyd Lawson of
Phuket, Thailand, and Bonnie
Lawson Wagner and husband
Dennis of Las Colinas, Texas;
brother of Ione Lawson
Hebert and the late Roger
Lawson, Blanchard Lawson
Jr., Edward Adolph Lawson Sr.
and Alice Lawson Crawford.
John is a Marine, serving
during the Korean war. John
was a successful entrepreneurial
businessman, who
retired early and spent his
days traveling the globe with
Marilyn and his family. He
lived life to the fullest, enjoying
all of life’s adventures. He
is survived by his children;
Godsons, Edward Lawson Jr.
and Warren Couvillion; nieces
and nephews; four grandchildren,
Marissa Lawson Helm
married to Kyle Helm, John
Preston Lawson III, Erica
Lawson Cazenave married to
Brad Cazenave and Connie
Lawson Doughty married to
Clint Doughty and eight
great-grandchildren, with
another due in December.
John lived in Las Colinas,
Texas, the past six years with
his daughter and son-in-law. A
memorial service will be in
Natchitoches on Sunday,
September 8 at noon in
Bostick Hall at First United
Methodist Church with the
Rev. Doug Cain Officiating.
