Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Deputies, Natchitoches Parish Fire District #4 and the Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating the cause of a fire that claimed the life of an elderly Vowells Mill woman Saturday.
First respondersarrived at a mobile home fire in the 7400 block of La. Hwy 478 in Vowells Mill Sept. 28 at approximately 10:46 p.m.
The 911 caller reported that they believed their elderly aunt was in the mobile home.
After the fire was extinguished, Fire District #4 found the body of a female in a hallway between the rear door and living room area of the mobile home.
Natchitoches Parish Deputy Asst. Coroner Steven Clanton pronounced Paralee J. Bilberry, 81, of Vowells Mill dead at the scene from apparent smoke inhalation.
Investigators with the La. State Fire Marshal’s Office also responded to assist in the investigation.
Deputies say the mobile home received heavy damage, however, the fire does not appear to be suspicious at this time.
The investigation into the cause of the fire is continuing by the State Fire Marshal’s Office and NPFD #4.
Sheriff Jones extends his sympathy to the family of Miss Bilberry.
