There will be a National Night Out event at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Recreation and Community Center, Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 6:30 p.m. The local sponsor is District 3 City Councilwoman Sylvia Morrow. Students will get free school supplies.
Community leaders, residents, crime prevention coordinators, elected officials, civic groups, business owners, neighborhood organizations and local clergy are invited by Morrow to participate. This is a unique crime prevention event hosted by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) and the local sponsor.
The program will include a guest speaker, live entertainment, refreshments and a back-to-school bash for students. The event is hosted to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support for and participation in local anti-crime programs; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighbors are organized and fighting back to protect their neighborhoods.
“Everyone is encouraged to attend this annual event,” Morrow said. “This is a free event and one of the largest hosted by law enforcement. Your presence will be highly appreciated.”
Free school supplies will be given out to students. For more information, contact Morrow at 521-2713.
