Gators come just a play short, suffer first loss of the season

Powering through the first part of the season, the Lakeview Gators sought to keep the loss column empty heading into district. This began with a home matchup against Holy Savior Menard. Menard was expected to be the toughest opponent so far for the Gators, and they proved to be just that.

Neither team was able to get momentum through the first quarter. Both teams were forced to punt on their opening drives, but the Gators punt team couldn’t get the job done.

Punting from inside their 5-yard line, with just over seven minutes left in the first quarter, P #30 Mathew Johnson took a little too long following the snap, causing his punt to be blocked by a Menard defender, who picked the ball up and stepped into the end zone. A failed PAT kept the score 6-0.
