A crash involving three vehicles Oct. 1 killed a man from Natchitoches.
Troopers responded to the crash around 2:10 p.m. on LA Hwy 6, east of Robeline. The crash involved a 2019 Dodge pickup, driven by Mack Calhoun, 90, and two 2016 Freightliners (18-wheelers).
The Dodge was westbound on Hwy 6 when Calhoun lost control and crossed the centerline into the eastbound lane. The first Freightliner’s driver steered right in an effort to avoid the crash, but the Dodge collided with the left rear tires of the trailer. The Dodge continued westbound, in the eastbound lane and collided head-on with the second Freightliner.
Calhoun was pronounced dead.
Both drivers of the 18-wheelers were restrained, however the second Freightliner’s driver received minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.
Troop E Troopers have investigated 34 fatal crashes in 2019, resulting in 38 fatalities.
