Courthouse improvements begin construction this fall

The Parish announces that the courthouse ADA improvements project to address handicap accessibility will begin in the near future according to Parish President Rick Nowlin. The Parish recently executed a construction contract with DSW Construction of Many, in the amount of $120,775.

The project includes the construction of a wheelchair ramp at the Church Street entrance and modifications to restrooms in the courthouse. The ramp will start near the new handicap parking spaces in the NPSO parking lot.

The Notice to Proceed issued to the contractor includes a start date of Oct. 14, and a completion date not later than Jan. 11, 2020. The initial activity will involve purchasing specialty stone and steel components with construction to follow. Nowlin asks that everyone exercise caution when entering or leaving the courthouse during construction activities. Safety barricades will be used where necessary.

There may be a few days when alternate means of access to the courthouse will have to be used and notices will be posted on such occasions.
