July 10, 1935-Oct. 8, 2019

Memorial services for James “Jim” E. McDonald will be Oct. 27 at Alexander Industrial Maintenance, 5288 Hwy. 507, at approximately 3 p.m. There will be a benefit from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. before the memorial at the same location. He was preceded in death by his parents Kenneth and Dora Lee Nelson McDonald and brother Paul McDonald.

He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 31 years, Gail McDonald. Also left to cherish his memory are his brother Louis McDonald and wife Carolyn of Coushatta; sisters Jeanett Hartley and husband Bill and Mary Orsak of Sulphur; sons James Daniel “Danny” McDonald, Robert E. McDonald and Paul McDonald; daughter Tamara McDonald Hurd; stepdaughter Ellen Drummer and husband Leonard; granddaughter and “partner in crime” Ashley Davis and husband Gabram; grandson, his “main man” Lucas Drummer; many more grandchildren and great grandchildren; and daughter-in-law Karen McDonald of Missouri.

Jim was a United States Army veteran. He was a very hard worker. He always held a job and when he was off he would spend his time doing odd jobs or helping out friends and others when they needed it. Even after retiring he started mowing yards for something to do with his time. He did that until he was 81 years old. He had a kind heart and would help anyone because “no” was not in his vocabulary.

I will be forever grateful to my daughter for helping from the beginning until the end of his illness and to special friend JoAnn Bryant.

I would like to thank everyone who came to visit him at the hospital, rehab and at home. Special thanks to Hospice of Natchitoches and Overton Brooks VA Hospital of Shreveport for all the kind and caring nurses and aides who went above and beyond to care for him and his family during those difficult times. Thanks also to special friends Dan and Amy Dubois and Robert and Crystal Watson for all they have done for us. A very special thank you to Anita Sue Alexander Hines for putting together the benefit.
