The 2019-20 Lakeview boys basketball season gets underway this week with their matchup against the Captain Shreve Gators today, Thursday, Nov. 7. Capt Shreve Head Coach, Corey Deans, was a member of the undefeated 2003 State Champion Lakeview team, so this will be somewhat of a homecoming for him. Deans’ team plays a hard-nosed, man-to-man defense, somewhat the same style as Lakeview.
To contradict this style of play, Capt. Shreve also has a 6 feet, 9 inch big man playing the middle for them. It will be difficult to predict their game plan. Lakeview’s plan of attack will not change from what it was all last year. No team can hold us in man-to-man, and we will push the tempo on defense, in hopes to create turnovers that turn into offense. The two Gators have a good chance at seeing each other throughout the year in some tournaments, so it will be a good chance to preview them. With a lot of players still in football, Lakeview will only play six team members Thursday night. A win would mean a lot to the start of this Lakeview season.
Before the Gator vs Gator matchup, the first game of the night will be Booker T. Washington Lions vs Southwood Cowboys. BTW coach Chris Bush, and Southwood coach Eddie Hamilton, were former coaches at Lakeview, making this one big reunion night for these four coaches and friends. This bout will take place at 6 p.m. followed by the Lakeview game at 7 p.m. Come out and support your Lakeview Gators as basketball season finally gets underway.
