****UPDATE**** The child is now listed in stable condition and is expected to survive the tragic incident.
A 2-year-old child received a serious arm injury after falling from a lawnmower. The 911 Command Center received the call at 9:27 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 7. The caller stated the accident occurred in the 300 block of Smith Island Road near Powhatan and the child had serious lacerations to the arm and hand area.
NPSO deputies, Natchitoches EMS and Life Flight responded. The 911 dispatcher assisted the mother with triage and proper use of a tourniquet while first responders were en route. The child was airlifted to Ochsner LSU Health in Shreveport.
NPSO, EMS and the Times staff send prayers for the child’s recovery.
