The sixth and sevent grade Natchitoches Magnet Mustangs faced off against the Marthaville Hawks in a battle of wills. The two teams played hard throughout the game with a back and forth effort of willing their team onto victory but unfortunately, there could be only one winner and that was the Mustangs, 29-20.

Even though the Hawks could have won the game with a late push of six unanswered points, bringing them to within nine of Marthaville, they faced the other opponent that gives teams fits, the clock. Early miscues put the Hawks in a hole that was too far and hard to climb out of.

At the start of the game both teams were cold, missing the first six shots of the game until Jalen Jones grabbed an offensive rebound in the paint for the easy put back for two points. Mustangs were on the scoreboard first. Jones and Derrian Anthony were the only two players to score during the first quarter. Mustangs had a 3-0 point lead.

The second quarter was better for both teams as they settled down while making better decisions on passing to teammates and shot selections. The Hawks Benji Kilgore, Talan Durr and Aubrey Allen all scored two points apiece with no turnovers. The Mustangs answered by adding a three by Chanse Babers. That shot helped motivate his teammates to play harder.

Anthony recovered four rebounds while adding five more points. Anthony and Jones led scoring with eight each. The leading scorers for the Hawks was Benji Kilgore with eight points and Aubrey Allen with four.
