Metairie folk art collector’s Christmas ornaments selected as one of Oprah’s favorite things of 2019

Gitter Gallery owner Doug Gitter of Metairie announced his Clementine Hunter Christmas ornaments are included in this year’s Oprah’s Favorite Things holiday gift list featured in the December issue of O, The Oprah Magazine and on

The Oprah’s Favorite Things annual list is a must have holiday shopping guide that features the most decadent desserts, ingenious gadgets, and finest finds in home, fashion and beauty. The Clementine Hunter Christmas ornaments will be available for purchase at, in the Oprah’s Favorite Things storefront on Amazon at or on the Amazon App on iOS and Android and locally in Natchitoches.

As Oprah says in the December issue of O, The Oprah Magazine, “I’ve collected work by Clementine Hunter, a self-taught painter who grew up working on a Louisiana plantation, for some time now. When I saw these handmade glass Christmas ornaments, each portraying one of Hunter’s pastoral scenes, I was reminded of how art speaks in many forms.”

Clementine Hunter is arguably the most important folk artist of all time. The Clementine Hunter Christmas ornaments are derived from her works and reproduced by Gitter Gallery. Each handblown glass Christmas ornament is meticulously handsculpted and hand-painted by artisans. No two ornaments are alike.

Twelve readers will have the chance to win every item, including the Clementine Hunter Christmas ornaments, on Oprah’s Favorite Things List in the 12-Day Give-OWay Sweepstakes (www.oprahmag. com/12days), which runs from Nov. 27 through Dec. 8. To see the full list of items, visit 2019.

The December issue of O, The Oprah Magazine, featuring the Clementine Hunter Christmas ornaments on this year’s list, hit newsstands Nov. 19.
