One of the most significant and lasting changes to the Natchitoches Christmas Festival in the last five years has been the new Santa House located on the downtown riverbank.
Santa, who has appeared at every Natchitoches Christmas Festival for 92 years, now has a permanent home. While he’s made Natchitoches a stop on Christmas Eve for over 200 years, only recently did he establish a permanent residence.
Santa will be at his house in Natchitoches from 6-8:30 p.m. Christmas Festival Day, Dec. 6 until Christmas Eve, Dec. 24.
Prior to 2017, Santa used a temporary portable building on his trips to visit area children. The building was a little larger than the admission booths you see today leading to Front Street. It was stored at the City Barn and moved to the Riverbank every year prior to the Festival.
Today’s digs for Santa offer a heat and cooled environment and waiting benches for children as they complete their Christmas wish list for Santa.
This year there is no new set piece on the riverbank, however, the walk to Santa’s house will be spectacular. It has been reconstructed with LED lights that are programmable to create different visuals, sure to entertain kids of all ages.
