Celebrate the wonder, the joy, and the diversity of the month of December by attending the Christmas presentation of “December in Our Town” presented by the choral music classes of the East Natchitoches Elementary School, Thursday, Dec. 19 at 5:30 p.m. in the school gym/auditorium.
Written by Roger Emerson and under the direction of music teacher, Danny R. Von Kanel is a multi-cultural musical featuring drama, dance, and singing. The story of the musical features a group of young people, while collecting canned goods for a food bank, discovers holiday traditions of other cultures.
Through their experiences, they grow to understand each other better, and learn that peace, joy, and hope are holiday traditions that can be shared by all. This is Von Kanel’s ninth Christmas musical performed in Natchitoches Parish School district, the second at East Natchitoches Elementary School.
He is a graduate of William Carey College in Hattiesburg, Miss., and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in New Orleans, holding a bachelor’s and master’s of music degrees. Von Kanel is the founder and director of the East Natchitoches School of Fine Arts, now in its fifth year.
The musical has eight scenes featuring the characters of Emily, Ed, Mac, John, Julie, Mark and Michael, all played by multiple students, and yes, Santa will be there.
The songs include: December in Our Town, Light the Candles (The Hanukkah Song), Inn Keeper, Kwanzaa Celebration, Rockin’ Old St. Nicholas, La Fiesta!, and The Season of Hope. The public is cordially invited to this musical presentation.
