We are just a few days into the new decade…so JT’s New Year’s resolutions are still holding up. I don’t know about you, but JT doesn’t quite make it a month with his. JT is trying something different this year. He’s not making a list…and he’s posting it where he will read it every day. And….he’s not being original…he’s stealing his resolution this year from Benjamin Franklin. It was one of our nation’s first printers who said, “Be at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and let every new year find you a better man.”
JT’s past the days of welcoming in the new year. It usually arrives while he’s sleeping. This year was an exception though because he was awakened by some unusual sounds. At first he thought it was fireworks in the downtown area, but after visiting with some others, we’ve reached the conclusion is was pistols, rifles, shotguns and probably an AK47 making the sounds. This went on for about 30 minutes on the west side of Cane River Only one report of an ambulance running about that time…but don’t know if it was related. JT can’t emphasize enough how dangerous it is to shoot guns into the air. Surely, there’s an ordinance somewhere prohibiting that. Those pellets, bullets or whatever, are going to come back down and do damage to people, cars, roofs, etc.
Well…it’s a new year, so that must mean its election time in Louisiana. In fact, qualifying starts Wednesday, Jan. 8 for Natchitoches Mayor and City Councilman seats. We’ll also be participating in the Presidential Preference Primary. The election is April 4. If you think you might be interested in a seat in city government…you better make up your mind quickly. Qualifying is only Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. JT’s already seen some signs up for Councilman Eddie Harrington and he has an announcement in today’s paper….so obviously, he’s in.
JT is really having trouble finding anything to watch of TV these days. He’s trying hard to get his fix on football, but some of these games are with teams JT has little knowledge of and in bowl games with sponsors he’s never heard of either. Still, he watched part of a game last night because he knew it was getting to the end of football. He’ll be watching the Saints game this weekend, Louisiana’s own Laine Hardy, last year’s American Idol winner, will be singing the National Anthem. He also made an appearance here for TappedTober and was a big hit. The Super Bowl is about a month away, Feb. 5, and between now and then the games will be fewer and farther between. Even Mrs. JT is complaining about nothing on TV because all of the Hallmark shows are re-runs. JT guesses he’ll go back to westerns and LPB in February.
