Local students featured on library’s reading trail

An art and poetry contest was hosted last year to celebrate the NPL’s 80th anniversary and the winning students’ work is now on display on the walking track at Pierson and Mallett Park.

The Natchitoches Parish Library’s (NPL) Louisiana Symbols Reading Trail is now open at Pierson and Mallett Park (behind the fire station on East Fifth Street).

All panels are the work of local student artists. Submissions were accepted from any student in the parish and voted on for their categories. Students were asked to submit original artworks and poems about a Louisiana symbol of their choosing. With just a short walk, visitors can learn more about our state, courtesy of children of Natchitoches Parish.

Panels are installed the full length of the Reading Trail so parents and children can exercise not just their bodies, but also their minds together.
