Girl Scout cookie season is now upon us.
If you made a New Year’s resolution to cut back on sweets, we won’t blame you for straying just a little bit. And don’t feel too bad- you’ll also be supporting a great group of young entrepreneurs!
As stated on girlscouts.org “When you make a Girl Scout Cookie purchase, you’re helping the next generation of young female entrepreneurs get an important taste of what it takes to be successful—teamwork, planning, and a positive outlook (and that’s just the beginning)… Because proceeds from your purchase stay local, you help the awesome entrepreneurs who sell Girl Scout Cookies in your community power new experiences for themselves and their troop.”
Cookie enthusiasts can expect the regular line-up, including Thin Mints, Tagalongs, Samoas, Do-si-dos, Trefoils, S’mores and Toffee Tastics. This year, these favorites will be accompanied by a new lemony cookie- Lemon-Ups!
“Our new Lemon-Ups cookie represents the attitudes of our Girl Scout Cookie Entrepreneurs,” said Amaris Harris, director of marketing and communications of the Girl Scouts of Louisiana – Pines to the Gulf. “ Each one of the eight sayings baked into this new lemony cookie – such as ‘I am Bold,’ ‘I am a go-getter’ or ‘I am a Leader’ – is directly inspired by girls who have participated in prior Girl Scout Cookie season. These messages are how they identify themselves, and we thought it important (and fitting) to give them a tasty platform for their voices to be heard.”
The Girls Scouts council is hopeful and expectant that other girls will see this messaging and realize that she can identify with one or more of the sayings, and that Girl Scouts is a place that can help her find and use that voice within herself.
Brandice Dykes, leader of local Girl Scout Troop 546, said they got to try the new Lemon-Ups at a recent cookie rally in town. All six troops in Natchitoches (462, 546, 765, 1209, 1512 and 1270) will be selling them this season. Presales are from Jan. 11-28 and cookie booths will be set up Feb. 21-March 8. Anyone can order from a Girl Scout and each scout has the ability to share their digital cookie website and share with their friends and family. Those that don’t know a Girl Scout can find out when booths will be set up by going to girlscouts.org and searching for the cookie locator.
