One such baker is Danielle Brewton, owner of Dee’s Desserts and Designs, and has been in business since May of 2014. Brewton works out of the Natchitoches Country Club, creating cakes of all shapes and sizes.

“I made my nephew’s baby shower cake for my sister Carrie Brewton and fell in love with it,” said Brewton. “I believe God put it in my heart to start a baking business and it just got big really quick.”

On her baking process for her king cakes, she makes homemade dough, lets the dough rise for several hours, makes the filling then fills the cakes, bakes the cake. Brewton lets it cool while she makes the icing then ices the cake, sprinkles with the three Mardi Gras colors and finally stuffs it with the traditional baby and boxes it up.

Brewton also makes gluten free and keto diet friendly king cakes. Besides the traditional style, Brewton’s king cakes come in styles such as cinnamon cream cheese and brown sugar, pralines and cream, strawberry and cream, raspberry and cream, apple cinnamon, cherry and cream, banana foster, zulu (chocolate and coconut), coconut and cream and almond amaretto. Regular sizes are $30 and gluten-free cakes are $35. To order one of Brewton’s cakes, call (318) 773-8526.
