Natchitoches Parish students deemed Shining Stars

There were 288 total awards presented to 159 students during the Shining Stars ceremony Thursday, Jan. 23 at NSU Middle Lab School’s auditorium. These students in grades third through eighth scored in the top five percent at their respective school for the LEAP 2025 Spring 2019 testing. Several students also were given Triple Advance and Quad Advance awards. At right, Issac Young placed in the top five percent in math, ELA, science and social studies and was in the Quad Advance. Several Natchitoches Parish students were honored as Shining Stars during a ceremony Thursday, Jan. 23 at NSU Middle Lab School’s auditorium. 288 awards in total were presented to 159 students in grades third through eighth for scoring in the top 5 percent at their school for the LEAP 2025 Spring 2019 testing. 197 top 5 percent awards were given in ELA, Math, Social Studies or Science; there were 10 perfect scores (seven in ELA, one in Math and 2 in Social Studies); 50 Triple Advance for students that received an Advance score in three of the four assessments; and 31 Quad Advance for students that received an Advance score on all four assessments.

All students were congratulated by school board members after receiving their award(s), including Emile Metoyer, Billy Benefield, Rhonda Guidroz, Tan’kia Palmer, Beverly Broadway, Reba Phelps and Stephen Harris.

Keara Nelson place in the top five percent in ELA and Social Studies, and was in Quad Advance. She is also one of the three Students of the Year in Natchitoches Parish.
