Steels collected her second Southland Conference Indoor Field Athlete of the Week award of the season Wednesday after her performance at the Houston G5 & Super 22 Invitational. The awards are voted on by sports information directors at the conference’s member schools.

Steels emerged victorious in the invitational long jump competition with a leap of 21-2, outpacing the competition by 11 inches. It was the longest jump by a Southland Conference female performer this season and ranks second nationally.

Steels added to her second straight victory in her signature event dating to the Jan. 17 Texas A&M Ted Nelson Invitational by setting an indoor personal best in the triple jump. A senior from College Station, Texas, Steels soared 40-11.5 in the invitational triple jump competition at Houston, finishing fifth in her first triple jump attempt this indoor season.

Northwestern State returns to action next week, taking part in the UA Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas, on Feb. 14-15.
