Mystic Krewe de St. Denis introduces Captain, Belle and Knight


The Mystic Krewe de St. Denis is pleased to announce the Captain of the Ball, Belle of the Ball and Knight for the 2020 Mardi Gras season.

The Krewe’s 43rd Tableau and Ball is Saturday, Feb. 15 at the Natchitoches Event Center. The theme for this year’s presentation is “Sequins, Bow Ties and Broadway.”

Captain of the Ball Krewe member Thomas Gary Melder will serve as the 2020 Mystic Krewe de St. Denis Captain of the Ball. He is a graduate of Northwestern State University with a bachelor’s degree in Accounting and is the owner of Cypress Basin Land Company where he works with rural land development. Tommy is the son of Mr. and Mrs. L.J. Melder Sr. He and his wife, Brenda, have two children: Chad Melder and LeAnne Melder Broussard and her husband David, and three grandsons, Beau, Briggs and Baylor Broussard. He is a member of the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception and holds membership in the Knights of Columbus. Melder is active in the Rotary Club and coordinates the Rotary “Student of the Month” program. He has been a member of the Krewe since 1994 and has previously been bestowed the honor of serving as Duke and King. Belle of the Ball Sharon

Belle of Ball Sharon Gahagan

Camille Turcan Gahagan will serve as the 2020 Mystic Krewe de St. Denis Belle of the Ball. Gahagan holds a master’s degree plus 30 hours in education and is a retired speech/language pathologist and reading specialist. She currently serves as Chair of the Board of Directors of the Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts, Chair of the Historic District Commission, and Master Plan Chair of the Historic District Development Commission. She serves on the boards of the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Foundation and the Louisiana State Museum. She is a past president of the Natchitoches Service League and the Natchitoches/Northwestern Symphony Society, and served on the board of Louisiana Public Broadcasting. Gahagan and her husband, Henry Cole Gahagan Jr., a former Captain of the Krewe, have three children: Kristen Gahagan Weber and husband Scott of Houston; Henry Cole Gahagan III and wife Jackie of Dallas; and Jensen Gahagan Sessums and husband Christopher of Nashville. They have six grandchildren.

Knight James Wolff

Knight James Matthew Wolff is the son of Krewe members Mr. and Mrs. Michael Wolff. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Harold Wolff, Mrs. Marie Larson, and the late Rev. James Larson. Wolff is a senior at Natchitoches Central High School where he is a member of the Tennis Team and Future Farmers of America. He is a member and trustee of Christ the King Lutheran Church and volunteers for the Feed My Starving Children program. He has obtained industry certifications and is working to obtain additional certifications in welding, heating, and air conditioning from the Natchitoches Technical College. He is a past Squire-in-Training for the Mystic Krewe de St. Denis.
