Campti woman claims to have Covid-19 to avoid jail for meth possession

A traffic stop in the Oak Grove community near Natchitoches Wednesday, May 20 at 6:30 p.m. led to the arrest of a north Natchitoches Parish woman on felony drug charges.

NPSO Special Task Impact Patrol Unit deputies stopped a 2006 Saturn passenger car on Bennett Loop for a traffic violation. The driver, Rebecca Yvone Desadier, 48, whose license was suspended, was attempting to exit her vehicle when deputies observed a plastic bag fall on the ground containing suspected methamphetamine.

During a search of the vehicle, deputies observed a Pepsi can and upon examination, determined Desadier attempted to hide methamphetamine in the can.

Desadier, of the 100 block of Oil Road, Campti, was charged with Possession of CDS Schedule II Methamphetamine-2nd Offense, Criminal Obstruction of Justice and Criminal Mischief for alleging she had Covid-19 in an effort to avoid going to jail.

She then stating that was not true, however, she was examined by EMS and found not to have any virus symptoms.

Natchitoches Multi-Jurisdictional Drug Task Force Agents assisted following the arrest.

Desadier remains in Natchitoches Parish Detention Center awaiting bond.

The evidence will be submitted to the crime lab for narcotics analysis.

The vehicle was impounded by a local wrecker service.
