Councilman provides facts on financials regarding Hotel

Councilman at Large Don Mims provided some fact-from-fiction-and-rumors this week on the city’s liability in the funding of the Chateau St. Denis Hotel while speaking with members of the Walter Ledet Coffee Club. Mims, a long time city councilman, said a number of questions about the hotel had come up in conversation about a week ago, so he researched the project and wanted to provide the group accurate information.

He also told the group, “They are open.”

There was a question about the loss of the money for the city because the hotel was closed for a short time at the onset of COVID. That closure started speculation that snowballed into a lot of misinformation about the city’s financial obligation in the St. Denis Hotel project.
