There was a short City Council meeting Monday with few items on the agenda. Mayor Lee Posey recognized retiring Director of Planning and Zoning Juanita Fowler who has been in that position 21 years. Former Mayor Wayne McCullen hired Fowler when he was elected in 2000. She worked at the Parish Planning and Zoning Commission for eight and one-half years and before that was at Natchitoches Parish Hospital for 10 years. “This time I don’t have to brief you on anything,” Fowler told the council and said it had been a pleasure to be part of the growth of the City. “It’s time to do other things.” Fowler has been appointed to the Election of Board of Supervisors by Gov. John Bel Edwards.
The council cast a unanimous vote on a planning and zoning ordinance to rezone 206 University Parkway at the request of Brant and Clint Perot for a business office.
There was also a final vote on rezoning of 40 acres near the Interstate 49 and La. Hwy. 478 exchange adjacent to Bayou Blue Road. The owner, Hawley Group LLC, plans to develop the property for a Certified Business Site for economic development.
The council introduced an ordinance to lease space to Ronald and Marilyn D. Mooty who plan to build a deck on Sibley Lake for dining at Almost Home.
The council passed an ordinance for an agreement with La. Office of Community Development for the 2019-2020 Community Water Enrichment Fund Grant for improvements to the Natchitoches Water System facility on Northern Street.
The next scheduled council meeting will be June 8.
