Five senior student athletes from St. Mary’s School were selected as part of the 2019-2020 Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) All-State Composite The LHSAA All-Academic Award Program presented by ISC recognizes the academic excellence of senior student athletes who have attained a 4.0 grade point average by placing them on the composite All-American Team. To earn Composite Team honors, a student-athlete’s six-semester GPA must have an un-weighted 4.00. These students cannot even have a “B” on their transcript and honors classes are not considered.
The students who made the team are:
•William Broadway, son of Scott and Yvette Broadway, maintained a 4.0 gpa while playing varsity baseball and football at St. Mary’s. He was named 2nd Team All District 3rd Base in 2017 and 2019 and received the 2019 Dirt Bag Award. William plans to attend Louisiana Tech.
•Carissa Kautz, daughter of Steve and Kathleen Kautz, maintained a 4.0 gpa while playing varsity basketball and track. In 2017, she came in 2nd in the 800m and 400m District Meet and was a regional qualifier. In 2018, she was a 100m hurdles and 4 X 400m relay District Champion, and a regional qualifier. In 2019, she was the 100m and 300m hurdles District Champion, and placed 6th in the 100m at regionals. She was a member of the 2020 LHSAA Girls Basketball State Championship Team. She was also a varsity and All-American cheerleader. Carissa plans to attend Texas Christian University as a Chancellor’s Scholar in Communication Disorders.
•Chloe Longlois, daughter of Stan and Julie Longlois, maintained a 4.0 gpa while playing softball. She was named 2nd Team All-District Outfielder in 2018; 1st Team All-District Utility, 1st Team All-State LSCA, All-State LSWA Honorable Mention in 2019; and received the St. Mary’s Offensive MVP in 2019. Chloe plans to attend Northwestern State University and major in accounting.
•Emily Maggio, daughter of Chris and Jennifer Maggio, maintained a 4.0 gpa while playing basketball and tennis at St. Mary’s. In tennis, she was a three-time state qualifier. In basketball, she was named All-State Honorable Mention and 1st team All-District, and a member of the 2020 LHSAA Girls Basketball State Championship Team. She was also a varsity cheerleader. Emily plans to attend Louisiana State University and major in accounting.
•Mary Anna Scruggs, daughter of Sammy and Connie Scruggs, maintained a 4.0 gpa while playing tennis, cross country, and track at St. Mary’s. She was the team captain and regional qualifier in track and a state qualifier in tennis. She was also a varsity captain and two-time All-American cheerleader. Mary Anna plans to attend Northwestern State University and major in Mass Communications.
