District Court sentencing June 16

Jimmy Benjamin, 37, b/m, entered a guilty plea to aggravated second-degree battery. He was sentenced to 12 years with the La. Dept. of Corrections (DOC), all but six years were suspended. Benjamin was placed on five years supervised probation upon release. He was given credit for time served since date of arrest, Nov. 13, 2018. Benjamin was further ordered to pay $71 monthly fees. Howard Conday was counsel for Benjamin. Jason Methvin, ADA, represented the State.

Carmello Mayo Leo Casciari II, w/m, 27, pled guilty to attempted possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and was sentenced to serve 3.5 years with DOC. Casciari received credit for time served and ordered to pay a fine of $500. Counsel was Joseph Beck. Jason Methvin, ADA, represented the State.

Wesley Dennis, w/m, 27, pled guilty to video voyeurism and unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling. He was sentenced to serve two years with DOC for the voyeurism charge, all but eight months were suspended. He was placed on three years supervised probation upon release and given credit for time served since his arrest Oct. 21, 2019.
Dennis was sentenced to serve three years at hard labor with DOC, suspended. He was placed on three years supervised probation, to run consecutive with voyeurism charge. He was ordered to by $71 monthly for each charge to run concurrent. Counsel was Eric Johnson. Hugo Holland, ADA, represented the State.

Tony D. Holden, b/m, 43, pled guilty to possession or introduction of contraband into a penal institution. He was sentenced to serve one year with DOC, received credit for time served Sentence will run consecutive to any sentence currently being served. Counsel was Joseph Beck, Jason Methvin, ADA, represented the State.

Jerry Wayne Nelson, b/m, 49, pled guilty to principal to theft of a motor vehicle. He was sentenced to one year with DOC and received credit for time served. Sentence will run consecutive to any sentence currently being served. Counsel was Joseph Beck, Jason Methvin, ADA, represented the State.

Devin Newman, w/m, 27, pled guilty to possession or introduction of contraband into a penal institution. He was sentenced to one year with DOC with credit for time served. Sentence to run consecutive to any sentence currently being served. Council was Joseph Beck. Jason Methvin, ADA, represented the State.

Jontavious Marshall, b/m, 18, pled guilty to aggravated assault with a firearm. He was sentenced to six years with DOC, suspended. He was placed on three years supervised probation and ordered to pay $2,316.50 in fines and court costs and an additional $71 monthly probation costs and fees. Counsel was Joseph Beck. Jason Methvin, ADA, represented the State.

Carl J. Taylor Jr., b/m, 21, pled guilty to simple burglary. He was sentenced to three years with DOD, suspended.
